Serbs end South Korean streak in friendly

Share Giant Serbia striker Nikola Zigic ended South Korea’s 27-match unbeaten run with the only goal in Wednesday’s international friendly at Craven Cottage.

Zigic, who plays in Spain for Valencia, nodded in a cross from Nenand Milijas in the sixth minute but Serbia, despite dominating, could not add to their score.

South Korea’s best moments came from Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung and the closest they came to an equaliser was when substitute Lee Dong Gook almost got on the end of his inviting second-half cross.

Aleksander Lukovic hit the crossbar for Serbia in the first half while Park’s Manchester United team-mate, Nemanja Vidic, had a close-range effort palmed away by Korean keeper Kim Young Kwang.

Milos Krasic also went close with a late free-kick and Serbia were good value for the victory. Both Park and Vidic were substituted with 20 minutes left but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will have been glad to see the pair on the comeback trail following recent injuries.
