Ten-man Hannover overcame a numerical disadvantage to win 3-1 at Astoria Walldorf
Marcelo received his marching orders in the 39th minute and the two sides were level at 1-1 going into the final 15 minutes, but a quick-fire double from Lars Stindl and Joselu gave Hannover the victory.
A brace from Branimir Hrgota helped Borussia Monchengladbach ease past Homburg 3-1, while Eintracht Frankfurt emerged 2-0 victors from their encounter with Viktoria Berlin.
Eintracht Braunschweig, who were last season relegation from the Bundesliga, won 1-0 to edge past fifth-tier side Bremer SV, while Optik Rathenow – who play at the same level – lost 3-1 to visitors St. Pauli.
FC Koln recorded the most convincing win of the day as they thrashed FT Braunschweig 4-0 on the road, while 3. Liga club Wehen Wiesbaden forced Kaiserslautern all the way to penalties after a 0-0 draw, before losing 5-3 in the shoot-out.

DFB-Pokal Review: Bochum stun Stuttgart, Dortmund ease past Kickers
Bundesliga side Stuttgart were dumped out of the DFB-Pokal on Saturday after losing 2-0 at second-tier club Bochum.
Bochum went into the match in decent form after starting their league campaign with two consecutive wins and they put on a determined display against their more illustrious opponents.
Simon Terodde has been in good form so far this term, netting three in his two 2. Bundesliga outings and he was the hero again on Saturday.
The close-season signing from Union Berlin opened the scoring with nine minutes on the clock and he eventually doubled his tally just after the break, earning Bochum a spot in the second round.
There were few other major upsets to consider, though FSV Frankfurt and Sportfreunde Siegen did play out a six-goal thriller at the Leimbachstadion.
Despite initially falling 2-0 down, Frankfurt brought themselves level and even went ahead at the start of extra-time.
Sportfreunde grabbed an equaliser with 118 minutes on the clock, but they ultimately came unstuck on penalties, losing 8-7.
Borussia Dortmund progressed after beating third-tier opposition Stuttgarter Kickers 4-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has called for Brandao to be banned for life for an alleged headbutt on Thiago Motta.
Footage shows the Bastia striker involved in a confrontation with the PSG midfielder in the tunnel after the French champions’ 2-0 Ligue 1 victory at Parc des Princes on Saturday.
Pictures have also surfaced showing Motta with a bloodied nose following the incident, with initial reports suggesting it is broken.
And Al-Khelaifi has called on the authorities to come down hard on Brandao, who was making just his second appearance in a Bastia shirt.
“What is happening, it’s very serious,” he said. “This is very serious for French football. Not just for Paris Saint-Germain.
“Now the league and referees will have to make a decision. I hope the decision will be a life ban. It’s a bad image for French football.

Primeira Liga Review: Sporting held in opener, Vitoria win
Sporting Lisbon’s frustrating close-season extended to the new Primeira Liga campaign as they were held 1-1 at Academica on Saturday.
Sporting finished runners-up to Benfica in Portugal’s top flight last term under the stewardship of Leonardo Jardim.
However, Jardim departed the club in June to take the vacant position at Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, while utility man Eric Dier also left to join Tottenham.

It looked as though Sporting would have some respite in Marco Silva’s league debut as head coach when Andre Carrillo put the visitors into a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes at Estadio Efapel.
However, the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when Carvalho was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Sporting looked destined to hold on to their slender advantage, but their hopes were dashed in second-half injury time when Rafael Lopes levelled for the hosts.

No transfer disagreements with Pulis – Parish
Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish insisted there were no transfer disagreements with former manager Tony Pulis.
Pulis quit the club suddenly on Thursday, just days out from their Premier League opener at Arsenal.
Reports suggested Pulis was unhappy with Palace’s failure to sign transfer targets, but Parish said that was untrue.
“The stories about me wanting certain players and Tony not wanting certain players are just not the case,” Parish told BBC Match of the Day on Saturday.
“My job is to try to get the deals done for Tony or any other manager.
“There was a good transfer budget agreed. There was a lack of targets the manager felt were good enough in the window and it came to a point where he felt he could not carry on.
David Luiz slams Brandao
Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz labelled Brandao’s alleged headbutt on Thiago Motta as unacceptable.
